MZN3 is a powerful trio comprising three major voices of the Scandinavian contemporary jazz/improvisation scene. MZN3 thoroughly explores the possibilities of the trio format, working in the twilight zone between composition and improvisation to create a powerful blend of hard-core blowing, grooves, and psychedelia. The members freely utilize their extensive experience in a wide variety of musical styles encompassing everything from heavy metal to contemporary music, with a common reference to jazz and improvised music. MZN3's eponymous debut album (Jazzaway JARCD 013) was released to critical acclaim in 2005. >> www.jazzaway.com ALBUM REVIEWS "a meeting where three strong personalities has traced down a common, exciting language in the middle of all genres" "MZN3 moves right in to the top notch of Norwegian free improvisers" "free music with clear structures, the musicians equipped with big ears and using them excellent for dynamic effects. The music is allowed to evolve organicly - it is of the kind where you end up sitting on the edge of the chair in excitement waiting to see what comes around the next corner." (Tor Hammerø, Puls)
"The distance to the pioneers of this format, like Sonny Rollins, is not gaping, with Albert Ayler waving from whereever he is. But MZN3 are also defending their own brand with excellence on this album." "The transmissions between the composed and the improvised acts differently all the time, sometimes straight into orbit, and the album is cooking freshly." (Roald Helgheim, Dagsavisen)
